Description
Bilberry has long been a remedy for poor vision and "night blindness." .Clinical
tests confirm that given orally it improves visual accuracy in healthy people,
and can help those with eye diseases such as pigmentosa, retinitis, glaucoma,
and myopia. During World War II, British Royal Air Force pilots ate Bilberry
preserves before night missions as an aid to night vision. Bilberry works by
improving the microcirculation and regeneration of retinal purple, a substance
required for good eyesight.
The effectiveness of the fruit extracts was linked to a group of compounds called "anthocyanosides." These compounds are derivatives of anthocyans - the pigments responsible for the red, blue or violet colors in flowers and fruits. The majority of studies on bilberry have involved extracts purified to contain from 25 to 36 percent anthocyanosides. At least fifteen different anthocyanoside compounds have been identified in bilberry extracts. Most standardized bilberry extracts available as dietary supplements on the American market contain 25 percent anthocyanosides.
Bilberry is also commonly known as blueberries. This product is especially popular with European and American customers because of its rich nutritional value and particular effects. The principal ingredient, anthocyanidin, comes in extract amounts up to 25%. Traditionally, it is believed to benefit vision significantly, it also promotes porphyropsin regeneration that night vision needs. Besides, bilberry can improve agraphia resulting from visual illness and visual fatigue. Currently, bilberry extract is widely used in health care products concerning vision and the cardio-cerebral vascular system. Suitable for treating retinopathy, cataracts, glaucoma, yellow spot decline and hemorrhoidal pastille resulting from diabetes.
